This year we’ll be continuing the mysteries of the Sacred King cycle that we’ve been following all year. At Lammas, the Sacred King sacrifices himself and his worldly desires in order to gain spiritual enlightenment and become a god for his people. To commemorate this event, we’ll have a traditional wicker man ceremony where an effigy of the Sacred King, made entirely of vegetable materials, is burned in the sacred bonfire representing his death and transformation into the divine. Inside the wicker man, offerings of fruits, vegetables, wine, honey, chocolate, grains and flowers will be placed as symbols of gratitude for our personal growth and evolution in this Sacred King Year. Additionally we’ll be fashioning crowns out of dried flowers and paper that we’ll sacrifice into the fire as a symbol of our own personal sacrifice of our worldly attachments in order to move into the role of priesthood for our people.
We would love to have you join us for our event! This event is open to the public, so feel free to invite your interested friends of “like-mind”! To find out more information about our Lammas Event, visit the Upcoming Events page.

Astrology is one of the Five Arts of Wisdom in the Druidic Craft of the Wise. We understand that by observing the patterns in the heavens we can gain insight into our own personal strengths and weaknesses and also learn how to live in harmony with the greater cosmos.
At this current time, a powerful arrangements of planets in the heavens is creating an interesting dynamic for many of us in the world. A Grand Trine involving Mars in Aries, Saturn in Leo, and Pluto in Sagittarius has set up a powerful dynamic that leads to a naturally flowing expression of frustration, outward anger or rage, and violence. Let’s take a moment to look at the planets involved and see how we can adjust our own behaviors to prevent negative consequences to this arrangement and harness the power of this configuration for our greatest personal evolution.
Mars in Aries: This is Mars’ sign of rulership. Here, he answers to no one, and is free to act as he sees fit. Mars in Aries is all about action – act first, think later. Our manner of doing things becomes powerful, driven, action-oriented. This orientation carries with is some downfalls as well. When Mars is in Aries, we lack the perspective we need to act appropriately with forethought, and with consideration of others. We behave brashly, rudely, impulsively. We are solely concerned with our own selves to the detriment of others. This position of Mars motivates us to “GO GO GO!” without looking to see where you’re going first and foremost.
Saturn in Leo: This is a very difficult place for Saturn to be, as this is his detriment. When a planet is in its detriment, it acts with as much power as its rulership, but it is WAY out of line. Saturn in Leo causes us to become aware of our insecurities and our innate self-worth issues. We strive for outward acknowledgment of our self worth in order to satiate that insecurity or at least to mask it. Saturn in Leo motivates us to become show boats, drama queens, act out in frustration or do anything to gain attention. Saturn in Leo does have its positive sides, but they are limited. If a person learns to heal their self-worth issues surrounding their identity, they can become a very focused, gregarious leader, but will still run into situations where their showboating will get them in trouble.
Pluto in Sagittarius: Pluto is not usually considered in D.C.W. astrology, but his influence on the mundane world cannot be denied. He is very slow moving and as such tends to affect world issues on a generational level. Pluto in Sagittarius has shown us a decline in the Church’s control on our lives, and an unearthing of their unethical practices – and this applies to many religions, not just the Roman Catholic Church. Pluto in Sagittarius has also unmasked corruption in the highest organizational levels of our government, and forced us to reconsider our philosophies as a society, breaking down what no longer serves us (like unconditional support for a leader regardless of their actions) and reforming new, healthier, stronger ideas (like a need for transparency at all levels of an organization to prevent corruption and unethical behavior). On a personal level, Pluto in Sagittarius compels us to discard old fixed dogma, and replace it with flexible, relativist philosophy. The process of breaking down your beliefs and replacing them with new functional ideas about life is a very difficult one and often brings about frustration, discord, and malcontent. In the end, the transformational process will be for the best, but the process is very painful.
All three of these planets are in a Grand Trine – this means they are 120° away from one another (with a little wiggle room). This means that their energies are naturally flowing into one another, and this creates an interesting dynamic. We feel a melding and flowing together of frustration, malcontent, insecurity, discord and impatience. We innately seek to have our feelings resolve through action. In this case, action is manifesting itself as violence, lashing out, dramatic arguments, aggressive driving, rage and more. This is happening everywhere. Couple this with the current Mercury Retrograde event and everyone is buried deep in their own thoughts, churning their malcontent and frustration around and around in their minds, and lashing out subconsciously at those around them. This kind of behavior is base animal instinct, and it is the easiest route of action for us.
However, we live in a society and have elected to act from awareness toward a goal of spiritual evolution. Therefore we need to learn how to harness this astrological energy into positive, constructive applications instead of harmful, negative, violent actions. The best was to express this energy is through physical activity. This will assist you in processing any malcontent, anger or frustration you might be feeling at a base physical level, satiating our instincts and calming down our animal minds. An exercise routine that involves weight lifting or some other type of force that gets your heart beating in your chest and helps you feel a bit brutish would be an excellent way to channel this energy into good health for the body.
If you cannot exercise because of physical limitations, then putting your mind to work on something creative would also be effective. Channel your frustrations into art that speaks out. Create drawings, collages, compositions or sculptures that scream your frustrations with society or with your life into a tangible art piece – that way your voice can be heard and others can feel a resonance with your frustration and feel satisfied that they are not alone in their feelings and that others are also hearing their cries of anger. This is a constructive way to process this astrological energetic pressure.
Also, journaling – either through written or typed words will help you voice your frustrations and process the shifting and changing paradigms you’ll be experiencing thanks to the Pluto effect. If words aren’t your thing, then use photos to journal your life. Take a photo a day and post it up on a website like Flikr.com or Photobucket.com. These images can document the changing forces in your life, and if you feel particular frustration or anger about something you can capture it in images to process your feelings in a healthy way.
Of course, meditation and relaxation are a wonderful and necessary part of ultimately releasing all of these frustrations, but sometimes it’s hard to move into a meditational place when your mind is so angry that it can’t stop racing. The physical activities mentioned in this article can at least give you a pressure valve to release those feelings enough to move into a meditative place and reach your ultimate place of mental and spiritual rest.
Consider these astrological forces currently at play. They won’t last for long, thankfully, but awareness of the pressures will begin to alleviate their affect on you. Applying these basic exercises should help you release the last bits of whatever pressures you’re feeling and help bring you to a healthy place of resolution and relaxation.
Blessings to you and may the Art of Astrology continue to guide us well in the future.
